Survivor Leadership
Survivors are experts in the systems they have experienced. Their voices, knowledge, and leadership should help shape legislation, programs, funding priorities, prevention strategies, and responses to exploitation.
Freedom & Restoration
Our work extends beyond helping people escape exploitation. We advocate for the conditions survivors need to build safe, stable, independent, and meaningful lives.
Prevention
We believe exploitation can be prevented. Education, early intervention, online safety, healthy relationship education, demand reduction, and stronger protections for children and vulnerable populations are essential.
Inclusion of Lived Experience
There is no single survivor story. We value diverse experiences of trafficking and exploitation, including sex trafficking, labor trafficking, familial trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation, forced criminality, and technology-facilitated exploitation.
Opportunity, Not Obligation
Survivors do not owe the movement their stories. Leadership and advocacy should be opportunities available to survivors, never expectations placed upon them.
Courage
We are willing to address difficult issues, challenge ineffective systems, elevate overlooked realities, and advocate for change even when doing so is uncomfortable.
Dignity & Respect
Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of their history, circumstances, criminal record, exploitation, or stage of healing.
Accountability
Effective anti-trafficking policy must address those who create and profit from exploitation: including traffickers, exploiters, buyers, and systems that enable abuse, while avoiding the criminalization of victims.
Unity
Progress requires collaboration. We bring survivors, advocates, service providers, law enforcement, policymakers, researchers, community organizations, and other partners together around shared solutions.
Trauma-Informed Advocacy
Survivor participation should never require retraumatization. We respect boundaries, privacy, individual readiness, and each survivor's right to determine how, or whether, their lived experience becomes part of their advocacy.
Integrity & Evidence
We pursue policy that is informed by lived experience, research, data, frontline expertise, and measurable outcomes. Our goal is not simply to pass legislation, but to create change that works in practice.
Hope
We believe systems can change, communities can become safer, survivors can thrive, and exploitation can be prevented. Every policy we advance is ultimately about expanding freedom and possibility for those who come after us.
